Why does the mind seek pleasure? Why does it fix up a certain goal and that is to be happy? Why is it that we consider pleasure so important?
Logically, a sensation, which you like, you call that sensation pleasure. The very demand for that sensation to last causes pain. Each sensation is short lived isn’t it? Therefore the constant seeking or finding of happiness or joy or pleasure causes pain. The hysterical part is that we think its worth it, the psychological pain that we experience in finding that makes us happy is more than the happiness itself isn’t it ?
Is there an end to pleasure? When I say end I don’t mean going to any forest or the Himalayas, I mean is there an end to constantly seeking pleasure in any activity.
The beginning of growth is the realization that there is no pleasure or pain; there are only sensations that we agree with or disagree with. Pain for you can be joy for someone else.
Transcending psychological pain is to have clarity that it is not possible to achieve continuous pleasure.
The people who deny themselves of pleasure in turn get violent; they express it in harmful ways. That’s the difference between transcending it and omitting it.
It is indiscreet to control it , It must be observed.
